Pashupatinath: In Hinduism, Lord Shiva is called by infinite names – someone calls him Mahadev, and some Neelkanth. But a name that is particularly spiritual depth is Pashupatinath. This name is not just a title, but a divine concept, which reflects the compassion, justice and liberator of Lord Shiva.

The word “pashupatinath” is made up of two Sanskrit words – “animal” and “husband”. Here “animal” is not just an animal, but is every living being who is trapped in ignorance, fascination and bondage. “Husband” means owner or protector. Thus Pashupatinath is those who freed these organisms from spiritual darkness and take them to the path of salvation.

Legend: When Lord Shiva took the incarnation of Pashupatinath

In ancient times, when sin, iniquity and chaos were at its peak on earth, not only humans but also the gods were disturbed. At that time Lord Shiva incarnated as Pashupatinath. In this avatar, he again balanced the creation in his calm and compassionate form.

His form was a symbol of justice and liberation. He not only destroyed the Asuras, but also provided justice to all living beings according to their deeds. This is the reason that this form is still considered extremely revered.

Divine chariot

According to another legend, when the divine chariot of Lord Shiva was prepared to kill the Asuras, the horses that run it also trembled with their sharp. The chariot began to move, the earth shake and no power could handle the weight of Lord Shiva.

Then Lord Shiva said that if all the gods and animals accepted a little animal instinct and consider them as their lord, then they will free them from their bonds. The gods approved and since then God was called “Pashupatinath” – the lords of all the animals that he gave liberation.

The world famous Pashupatinath Temple located in Kathmandu, Nepal makes the divinity of this name even more great. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and a four -faced Shivling is installed, which symbolizes the four directions of the universe.

It is said that when the terror of demons was spread in Kathmandu in ancient times, Lord Shiva incarnated here and killed the Asuras and protected innocent creatures. From that time, this place became known as “Pashupatinath”.
