PM kisan: A major step has been taken to make farming digital in the country. Under PM Kisan Yojana, the central government is now giving a unique digital identity card i.e. KISAN ID to the farmers. With this digital initiative, not only will farmers get the benefit of government schemes quickly, but their land, crop and personal information will also be available on a safe digital platform. So far, more than 6.1 crore farmers have joined this facility.
What is a farmer identity card?
The farmer identity card, which is usually being called Digital Kisan ID, is a unique digital card in which the name of the farmer, the details of his land, the crop record and the other agriculture related information is digitally saved. This identity card is digital like Aadhaar card but is used only for agricultural schemes and services.

With this identity card, it will be easy to decide which farmers are eligible for which government schemes. This will also make it easier to prostrate the wrong beneficiaries and the right farmers will get the benefit of schemes with direct and transparency.
How is this change related to PM Kisan Yojana?
Under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, farmers are given assistance of ₹ 6000 every year in three installments. But often due to wrong or incomplete information, or land disputes, farmers are unable to take full advantage of it. With the digital Kisan ID, all the information related to the land of farmers will be recorded directly in the system, so that the money of the PM Kisan scheme will be transferred directly and quickly.
Apart from this, schemes like crop insurance scheme, farmer credit card and fertilizer subsidy will also be linked to this digital identity so that farmers can get all services from the same identity.
Which states of which states got the most benefit?
According to government statistics, Uttar Pradesh is at the forefront of the states where most of the farmers are connected to the digital ID. Below are statistics of major states:
- Uttar Pradesh – 1.3 crore farmers
- Maharashtra – 99 lakh farmers
- Madhya Pradesh – 83 lakh farmers
- Rajasthan – 75 lakh farmers
- Andhra Pradesh – 45 lakh farmers
- Gujarat – 44 lakh farmers
- Tamil Nadu – 30 lakh farmers
Apart from this, farmers are being given digital identity rapidly in states like Bihar, Assam, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Kerala.
What is the goal of the government?
The government aims to get this unique digital identity card to a total of 11 crore farmers by FY 2026-27. A scheme called Digital Agriculture Mission has also been launched in this direction, which costs ₹ 2,817 crore.
This mission also includes many other initiatives like:
- Digital crop survey
- Soil fertility profile
- Data systems like Agristack
The government wants all agricultural schemes to be operated completely through digital platforms in the coming time.

Kanklujan
PM Kisan Digital identity being given to farmers under the scheme is not only a major technical initiative, but it is a useful step towards making India’s agricultural sector transparent and fast. With this, farmers will get the benefit of schemes directly, quickly and correctly, and it will be easy to add the records related to agriculture to the same platform across the country.
If this initiative is successful, then in the coming years it can become a strong basis in improving the economic condition of farmers.
