7th pay commission: Getting the benefit of 7th Pay Commission for Contract Teachers working in Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) schools has now become a truth. The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has directed MCD in a historic judgment to provide salary to all its contract primary school teachers as per the Seventh Pay Commission. The bench of CAT judicial member Manish Garg and administrative member Rajendra Kashyap clearly stated in this judgment that the principle of equal pay for equal work applies to all. The court said that when all the teachers are performing the same duties, then why their salary was discriminated against. The bench also said that this inequality is not appropriate in any way. It was also believed that employees should get justified and equal pay.

How will MCD contract teachers be affected by 7th Pay Commission?

This order came on the petition of Shahnaz Parveen and Tehmina Riyaz, but this will affect all the contract teachers working in the corporation. Currently, more than 1200 contract teachers are employed in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, who will now get salary under 7th Pay Commission. The petitioners had claimed that they were performing the same duties as regular teachers, but they were getting very low salary. This decision will resolve their complaints and they will get proper salary.

Cat’s order and accurate salary payment

CAT also directed that MCD should provide minimum pay scale, dearness (DA) and other allowances to its contractual teachers as per 7th Pay Commission. This order will apply to the teachers of the entire corporation, especially on the teachers whose salary was revised by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) in 2017. Now that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been integrated, this revised salary will be applicable to all the teachers of the corporation.

Southern Municipal Corporation had already amended

Kat also mentioned that the South Delhi Municipal Corporation had already amended the salary of its contractual teachers in 2017. But contract teachers of other corporations did not get this benefit. Now, the three corporations of Delhi have been integrated, and after this decision this order will apply to the teachers of the entire corporation. In addition, the payment will have to be ensured within three months as per the order. If not paid, it will be charged interest at the GPF (General Provident Fund) rate.
